FAQs
What is the best age to start learning guitar?
We recommend that if your child is showing an interest in learning an instrument, any age is the best age. As a parent, you’ll know when that time is. Is your child playing air guitar to their favorite songs or singing in the shower and everywhere they go? Perhaps they’re playing drums on the couch or the seat in the back of the car. These are all clear signs that you have a musician in the making.
We’ve had incredible success with guitar students starting as young as 4 years old. The key is not to expect miracles, but to trust that our professional instructors are working hard to motivate your child to be the best they can be. Slowly, skills will be developed, and before you know it, your child will be playing like a pro.
Should I play an acoustic or electric guitar?
Most new students want to start on an electric as it seems like a cooler instrument, however, we suggest that if possible, you should start with an acoustic. Acoustic guitars will be more difficult to play at first, which will make you work a little harder to make it sound good. Over time, you will naturally be able to strum your favorite songs, then when you begin playing an electric, it will be so much easier.
We have found that when students learn starting on an electric, it tends to be tougher to switch to an acoustic causing that student to not have as much interest in learning that instrument.
Do I need my own guitar?
We definitely feel it is a great idea to have your own instrument, but if you are testing the waters and would rather not make the investment, we offer affordable guitar rentals. We also sell some really amazing new guitars that are inexpensive and approved by us. Just ask your studio for more details.
How long until I’m good?
While everyone is different, the bottom line is practice. The more time you spend with your guitar, the faster you will experience ability-changing results. If we’re doing our job right by keeping you motivated and inspired, you or your child will have to work at putting the guitar down.
Can I play in a band?

Is the bass guitar the same as a regular guitar?
Just like a regular guitar, you can get a bass in electric and acoustic, however, the electric version is the most popular. Guitars have 6 strings and sometimes 7 whereas bass guitars are typically made with 4 or 5 strings. With that said, they also make bass guitars with 6 strings and sometimes more.
Another comparison is the gauge of the strings. Guitar strings are thinner while bass strings are much thicker, thus giving them that super low-end sound.

Is your child playing air guitar to their favorite songs or singing in the shower and everywhere they go? Do I need a drum set to start drum lessons?
Owning a drum set would be beneficial to becoming great fast, however, we know drum sets can be expensive and loud. We recommend that new drum students purchase a pair of sticks and a practice pad, both of which you can purchased at our studios.
When it comes time to buy a drum kit, you can always start with an electronic kit which takes up very little space and can be played with headphones if volume is a concern. An acoustic drum kit is always a must-have piece of gear for drummers and we can help you make the perfect choice. Talk to your instructor about different options and what we have in stock ready for you to take home.

FAQs
What is the best age to start piano lessons?
We recommend that if your child is showing an interest in learning an instrument, anytime is the best time. As a parent, you’ll know when that time is. Do I have to learn how to read music?
This is the number one question we hear at Rockstars of Tomorrow. The short answer is no, but learning to read music is an important skill. We believe that most musicians did not make the decision to learn how to play an instrument because they wanted to read music. They were inspired by a song or band and knew that playing music was something they had to do.
In our program, we start by making learning your instrument fun and exciting so you’re always motivated to learn more. Over time, most students will ask how to read music, which is the exact time that they are ready for this skill. Many music programs start by teaching you how to read music first, which we feel is more responsible for students losing interest and not wanting to further learn the skills required to become great at their instrument.
What makes a piano different from a keyboard?
A piano would be considered an acoustic instrument which means that the piano’s volume is controlled by dynamics (how hard or soft you play) and not by a volume knob. The keyboard would be digital or electronic and will have a volume control as well as many different sound options like strings, horns and more.
Another type of keyboard is a synthesizer which will typically have hundreds of sounds that are all editable to create the exact sound you’re looking for. Nowadays, most keyboards have a USB port which allows you to connect it to a computer making it act identical to a synthesizer.
For those musicians wanting to learn how to operate a synthesizer, we recommend taking one of our sound design classes. Talk to your instructor about this exciting option.

The quick answer to this question is yes, either a piano or keyboard will work. There are lots of inexpensive keyboard options to choose from, and in some cases, we can even rent you a keyboard. Talk to your instructor about what keyboard options we have in stock and available for you to take home.

FAQs
What is the best age to take recording production lessons?
We recommend that if you or your child is showing an interest in the inter workings of music, any age is the best age, and as a parent, you’ll know when that time is.
We’ve had incredible success with recording production students starting as young as 9 years old. This type of class is like learning a trade. It’s college-level instruction designed for all ages. Learn this skill and you will always be in demand in the music business. Truthfully, this class is like video games for the producing musician and in most cases replaces them completely.
How long until I’m good?
While everyone is different, the bottom line is practice. The more time you spend perfecting your craft, the faster you will experience ability-changing results. If we’re doing our job right by keeping you motivated and inspired, you or your child will have to work at not wanting to create and produce great music every minute of the day.
Do I need to know how to play an instrument to learn how to record and produce music?
Great question! Having a basic understanding of music in general is really important and a lot of this can be taught in the production room. In the studio, there are two roles: the Engineer and Producer.
The Engineer is someone who knows what buttons to push, where to set up the mics and ultimately how to get “that” sound.
Then there are the Producers who are responsible for producing great songs. They know melodies, chord arrangements, vocal harmonies and more. Understanding music and instruments gives great producers the edge to completely control a song and its final outcome.
Fortunately, DAW’s have plugins that are designed to sound like great drummers or keyboard players simply by pressing a single note on a controller.
Knowing how to play an instrument will immediately separate you from the pack, but is not a deal-breaker when it comes to this very exciting class.
What equipment do I need at home?
The gear list for any producer is endless and will never be completely filled. The basic necessary gear would be a computer and an audio interface (a device that allows you to connect your guitar and microphones into your computer). You will also need a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). This sounds complicated, but simply put, it is a music-based software to record into.
There are several options like Logic, Pro Tools, Cubase, Ableton and GarageBand (FREE). Eventually, the young producer will want to get a keyboard controller, microphones and plugins.

FAQs
What is the best age to start songwriting lessons?
We recommend that if your child is showing an interest in music, any age is the best age, and as a parent, you’ll know when that time is.
We’ve had incredible success with songwriting students starting as young as 8 years old. This is our most personal class which is more like receiving a gift. Great songwriters are hard to find, but when you become confident and good, everyone will notice.
What equipment do I need at home?
Songs can be written anywhere at anytime. You never know when an idea is going to strike. Most of us have a cell phone which can be your most important tool. Open up your voice memo app - then sing, hum or strum any idea that comes to your head. A great option would be to eventually add a recording production class to your schedule so you can complete all of your ideas for the world to hear.
Do I need to know how to play an instrument to write songs?
Honestly, no instrument is necessary to write a hit song as most start with a melody. However, knowing how to play an instrument gives you more tools to help in maximizing your songwriting time and your creative output when an idea or inspiration comes to you.

Which ukulele is best for me?
Ukuleles come in many different sizes and shapes however, the most common sizes are soprano ukulele which is the smallest. It has a thinner tone but great for traveling. then there is the concert ukulele which would be a couple of inches bigger than the soprano giving it a bigger sound. The tenor ukulele is much larger than the soprano making it a popular choice for performers and finally theres the baritone ukulele, tuned using the bottom four strings of the guitar making it a popular choice for guitar players. Before you ask, Billie Eilish uses a 15” concert ukulele.
